ALUMNI/STAFF PERFORMANCE
All current and past staff and all alumni are invited to perform in a special finale dance at our 6:30 pm Recital Show on Saturday, June 7! Our number will be the very last one in the show that night!
Dance Music and Sections
- The performance song is a mix of “Joyful Joyful” and “Gonna Bring You Joy”. Here is the link to the music!
- We have split up the song into 5 different sections and have made videos of the choreography for each section.
- This Video explains how the dance is structured and the different sections. JSOD Alumni/Staff Dance Info Video
– Section 1 | CURRENT STAFF only – we will rehearse for this in studio before recital, there is not a video of this section! This is to the slower intro music of the song (Music 0:00 – 0:42)
– Section 2 | Past and Current STAFF – when the music picks up in Joyful Joyful (Music 0:43 – 1:33) - Section 2 Video Teaching, Section 2 Video with Counts, Section 2 Video with Music
– Section 3 | ALUMNI – when the song changes to Gonna Bring You Joy (Music 1:34 – 2:16) - Section 3 Video Teaching, Section 3 Video with Counts, Section 3 Video with Music
– Section 4 | ANYONE – this is a short Hip Hop section for anyone Staff/Alumni who wants to be in it! Everyone else will squat on the sides and cheer them on! (Music 2:17 – 2:29) - Section 4 Video Teaching/Counts, Section 4 with Music
– Section 5 | ALL STAFF AND ALUMNI together – when the music changes back to Joyful Joyful, we want everyone to dance together for the ending, even if you just want to run on for the ending bow! (Music 2:30 – 3:10) - Section 5 Video Teaching, Section 5 Video with Counts, Section 5 Video with Music
Please select the dance sections you would like to perform in on this form.
Formations – Quadrants and Rotating
- For those of you who remember going to TATD, we are going to use the quadrant system to put you on stage with your dance friends! Quadrants will rotate clockwise throughout the routine so that every quadrant gets to be in the front at some point.
- We are not assigning rows and specific spaces. Since we are all dancers, we can just pick a spot and find a window! Dancers within quadrants can rotate lines (front to back, etc) when quadrants rotate if they wish!
- This dance performance is meant to be FUN and we are not concerned with cleaning and perfecting it!
Costume/Attire
- Everyone planning to perform will need to order a 50th anniversary T-shirt from this Google form.
- These are special edition anniversary shirts and will be $25. You will need to Venmo that money to @jsodwaco50. Please include your name in the memo if it is not clear by your Venmo name.
- We will all wear black leggings or black pants with the t-shirts.
- Shoes – anything you feel comfortable moving in! Some of us that still teach will probably wear jazz shoes.
Rehearsals!
- We know it will be really hard to rehearse for this, so we’ve scheduled 2 rehearsal times that we hope will be convenient for most people.
- Rehearsals will take place at the Midway Performing Arts Center.
- 1st Rehearsal – Friday, June 6 from 4:00 – 5:00pm for anyone that can make it
- 2nd and final Rehearsal – Saturday, June 7 from 4:30 – 5:45pm – between the 3:00pm recital shows and the 6:30pm Recital show in which we are the closing number.

SUBMIT PICTURES & VIDEOS
Pictures
We need your help collecting pictures for a slide show for this event! We plan to show this slide show before we perform on Saturday night and have it rolling at the brunch on Sunday morning!
Please email any old dance group pictures to us here by May 10!
Video Shorts
We would also love some short videos from our alumni and past staff members. Below are some questions we would love some short answers to – you can do them all in a longer video that we can cut from or in shorter videos. We will compile these to show throughout our shows over our recital weekend and at the brunch. We will also share on our social media.
Please email your videos to us here by May 10! If your email won’t go through, let us know and we’ll give you a phone number to send it to.
