JSOD is very excited to start our fun fall classes on Tuesday, September 2! Registration will remain open for new and current students until classes are full. We encourage you to sign up for classes as soon as possible as many classes are already full and have waiting lists. We have beautiful new dance floors at our Hwy 84 location, and we can’t wait to break them in. We are happy to answer any questions you might have about registration and starting dance classes. Please label all of your dancers shoes and send them with a dance bag to class to help keep them organized and from getting shoes mixed up. We encourage you to visit our FAQ page to learn more. We hope you’ve had a great summer and can’t wait to dance with all of you this fall!
JSOD is beyond blessed to welcome four teachers to our studio this fall. Katie Griffith just moved to Waco with her husband Joe who is pursuing his PhD at Baylor University. Miss Katie has danced professionally with Ballet Memphis and Neos Dance Theater. She will be teaching a variety of ages and styles at JSOD. Brittany Navarro was our summer Baylor intern, and we loved her so much that we decided to keep her this year. She will be teaching jazz classes and assisting in other classes for us. Chloe Connally and Cameron Gradel just graduated last year, and you probably remember their powerful solos and watching them dance in many past recitals. Chloe and Cameron will be teaching all styles of our Level 1 and beginner students, and we are so happy to have them aboard.
JSOD also welcomed 10 beautiful dancers to join our JSOD Dance Company this fall! These ladies have worked incredibly hard in classes for many years and are fluent in all styles of ballet, tap and jazz. You will see their pretty faces performing in our company shows this year.
New company members are Caroline Bradley, Monica Brown, Anna Hansen, Anna Jones, Kaija Kennedy, Chloe Maddox, Maryann Morgan, Anna Rohrer, Alyssa Stuhr and Chloe Walker.
JSOD had a jam-packed summer of fun! The weekend right after recital, JSOD took 22 dancers and staff members to the Texas Association Teachers of Dancing (TATD) annual convention at the beautiful Renaissance Hotel in Richardson, Texas. Dancers and teachers took classes in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and musical theater from top choreographers and master teachers from all over the country. They danced for over five hours for four days straight! At the convention’s performance night, the dancers did an outstanding job performing “Gatsby” and “JSODivaz” from our 2014 recital.
JSOD definitely shined at the Awards Banquet where Amelia Bachofen, 16, was awarded the Best All Around Senior Scholarship; Megan Condon, 15, was awarded the Senior Hip Hop Scholarship; Sydney Rokas, 14, was awarded a runner-up for the Senior Ballet Scholarship; and Chloe Walker, 13, was awarded a runner-up for Junior Tap Scholarship. Cameron Gradel graciously accepted a TATD Merit Scholarship and delivered a beautiful speech.
Great news – TATD will be in Waco next summer, June 21–24, at the Waco Convention Center! We highly encourage all JSOD dancers going into 5th grade and up to attend next summer in our hometown! Circle those dates on your calendar, and we will distribute more information to students soon.
JSOD also held its annual Diva Day Camp and two Princess Camps this summer in July. All of our camps were packed, and dancers had a great week! For Diva Day Camp, dancers came from 10 a.m . – 2 p.m. each day and took classes in ballet, tap, jazz, musical theater and hip hop. They also participated in fun activities of making dance crafts and learning how to put on stage make-up. Princess campers came each day from 10 a.m. – noon, learned ballet dances each day and made fun arts and crafts centered around Disney Princesses including Elsa and Anna from Frozen! We had a blast this summer and hope you plan to join us for camps next summer! Dates will be announced soon!
